The fleet has now converged on Oman after having had enjoyable stopovers on their cruising route at Kochi (Cochin) or in the islands of the Maldives.
Our primary destination is, however, Djibouti, which we have visited many times over the last 14 years. Ralliers have always found the stopover fascinating .
Djibouti is a complete mix of cultures from French colonial to a mix of local tribal groups - the Afar and Issas, plus many others including refugees from Somalia, mostly crammed into this very small city and container port. At one end of the social scale there is a French supermarket selling French cheese and at the other an amazing local market where one can buy live goats!
Yacht crews will also meet Ships of the Desert - camels are still a local form of transport. There may even be opportunities for Ralliers to visit Lake Assal - 500 feet below sea level - a vast salt lake formed by the Rift Valley and renowned as the hottest place on the planet. Much to report in due course after our Manager, Richard Bolt, arrives there in a couple of weeks time.
However, in the meantime for reasons of safety and security the position of the fleet will not be published in detail, although we shall of course be in contact with the yachts throughout.
