YM Blue Water Rally > Off to the Maldives and India
By Friday 23 January most Rally yachts had left Sri Lanka with 2 destinations in prospect. The bulk of the fleet is going to the Maldives - more days in Paradise, as someone remarked recently! The atolls are similar to the fabulous Tuamotus enjoyed by our sailors in French Polynesia and there is some amazing snorkelling in the crystal clear waters of the lagoons.
The most popular destinations are the beautiful islands of the northern group of the Maldives and, in particular, the anchorage at Uligan atoll which is still unspoilt by tourism. Some crews may also cruise to the nearby atoll of Dhidhdhoo - if only to get the name in their logbooks! For some, their next destination is Cochin in India. Cochin was our emergency port of call after the tsunami when our Rally could not enter Galle. This time several participants will call there and enjoy some fascinating tourism and the sights and sounds of another continent. (Cochin has already been announced as a fully supported destination on our next Blue Water Rally - see our earlier News item.)
